TTIP Summit

NEW ORLEANS, LA, USA - On Tuesday, June 3, 2014, the World Trade Center New Orleans with support from the Delegation of the European Union to the United States gathered panelists to discuss trade barriers between the European Union and the United States at the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership “TTIP” Summit. After Dominik Knoll, Chief Executive Officer of the World Trade Center New Orleans, welcomed everyone, the Consul General of France in New Orleans, Hon. Jean Claude Brunet, introduced the keynote speakers.

The TTIP keynote speakers included Dr. Andrew Muhammad, who is the Chief of International Demand and Trade Branch in Economic Research Service’s Market and Trade Economics Division of the US Department of Agriculture, and Adeline Hinderer Sayers, Trade Counselor of the Delegation of the European Union to the United States.
Mark Tiner, the Senior Professional Staff Member for Mary Landrieu, who is the chair of the US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, was the final keynote speaker.

After the keynote addresses, the panelists’ remarks addressed the potential effects on the economy of Louisiana and its ports as a result of trade between the European Union and the United States. The TTIP panelists included Loyola Law School Professor Patrick Hugg, Dr. Joseph Weinberg from the University of Southern Mississippi, John Hyatt from the Irwin Brown Company, and Mark Tiner. Hyatt credited Louisiana’s long term natural gas boom for European companies’ increased economic activity. Joseph Sensebe of Arcadis US Inc and Christine George of Air Liquide were the FDI panelists. Christine George highlighted the importance of the Mississippi River as a compelling resource and credited Louisiana as being an amicable state in terms of economic development.
