WTC Winnipeg: Growth and potential in the North

Aug 12, 2014

WINNIPEG, CANADA - At the recent The Pas Hub Forum, held on July 29th in The Pas, Manitoba, more than 75 representatives from the community, all three levels of government, major companies, and leaders in the transportation industry, came together to discuss the strategies needed to turn the northern Manitoba town of The Pas into a vital economic hub in Manitoba’s northern region.

The vision for an expanded role for The Pas as a key northern hub in the transportation, agricultural, natural resources, and mining sectors garnered support as well as a great deal of enthusiasm from those in attendance. There is some real potential for The Pas to serve as a stronger link between the Port of Churchill and the southern part of the province, developing greater linkages with Saskatchewan and international markets.

“We were very impressed with the vision proposed at The Pas Hub Forum, and were pleased to be a part of it,” stated event speaker Derek Earl, Director, International Trade at the WTC Winnipeg. “This forum was very timely. The WTC Winnipeg, for its part, will play a role in helping make this vision a reality. At the upcoming edition of Centrallia Manitoba, on October 8-9, 2014, the WTC Winnipeg will host a conference on business opportunities in Northern Manitoba to showcase this type of vision about the possibilities to grow and develop in the north.”

“For our part, we are putting together a very nice next step at Centrallia Manitoba in October, and already have a number of the key players participating. But, as the transportation links and infrastructure are developed, we see the ongoing contribution of the WTC Winnipeg as helping facilitate the business connections in international markets. That’s the real strength of the WTC network.”

In addition, we have a great occasion for other WTCA members to learn more about the trade and investment opportunities in Manitoba’s north. Looking ahead to Centrallia 2016 (May 25-27, 2016), which will be the next international edition of the business forum, we are already planning to showcase opportunities from across the Province, which includes the great potential of the North. Interested WTCs should stay tuned for more, and look to join us in Winnipeg in May 2016.
