SALT LAKE CITY, UT, U.S.A. - By Elizabeth Goryunova, Interim President & CEO WTC Utah. World Trade Center Utah has partnered with the Utah’s Governor Office of Economic Development in organizing a successful trade mission to Mexico, April 7-10.
The objectives of the Utah trade mission were to broaden collaboration opportunities in education, innovation and technology. Mexico is one of the top trade partners of the state, with $550,000 of goods exported to Mexico in 2013, including transportation equipment, food, machinery, minerals and other commodities.
40 participants of the delegation led by the Governor Herbert visited Mexico City where they met with the Governor of the State of Mexico Eruviel Ávila Villegas, Secretary of Foreign Relations José Antonio Meade and other government and business leaders, while the Minister of Economic Development of Jalisco Jose Palacios welcomed the delegation in Guadalajara. During the visit, the delegation participated in a round table discussions on environmental issues and air quality, introduced Utah companies expanding in Mexico, and had fantastic networking opportunities with over 250 representatives of business community at various events, including reception at the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Anthony Wayne residence.
Mr. Mario Torres, Legal and Administrative Counsel for the World Trade Center Guadalajara participated in a reception hosted by the Utah delegation at The Cabañas Cultural Institute. Utah businesses appreciated learning that the U.S. Consulate and U.S. Commercial Service very much enjoy their offices located in the World Trade Center Guadalajara building and have a good working relationship with its team.
