LIMA, PERU - Peru's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to have expanded by around 6 percent in March this year, said on Tuesday Luis Miguel Castilla, Peruvian Economy and Finance Minister.
The minister stated the Ollanta Humala's administration has managed to maintain growth momentum on the back of the pick-up in the performance of the domestic demand and the largest import of durable goods.
“According to preliminary data, electricity growth remains at level similar than the one recorded in February, which was set at around 7 percent; while the demand keeps its upward trend in the reported period,” Castilla said.
Likewise, the Peruvian government's senior official stressed the imports of durable goods experienced a significant recovery during the month under review.
“Everything indicates that in March the economy may have grown more than in February (5.72 percent). Thus, the Andean nation’s GDP growth during the first quarter of this financial year would be above 5 percent," Castilla noted.
