Taipei Int’l Machine Tool Show Ends on High Note

Mar 17, 2017

TAIPEI, TAIWAN –The 2017 Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS), the second largest of its kind in Asia, closed on March 12 after attracting record numbers of international buyers and visitors.

The six-day event drew over 7,300 international buyers, which was 2.3 percent more than the previous edition of the show held in 2015. In addition to the number of buyers, those of the exhibitors and booths had all set record highs for the third consecutive year, according to event co-organizer, Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC).

The biennial event served as the best procurement platform and the trend setter in the machine tool industry, WTC President & CEO Walter M. S. Yeh said, adding that this year’s show focused on smart manufacturing, integrating big data analyses, IoT and cloud computing applications.

The trade show, which also featured more than 200 one-on-one procurement meetings and over 30 professional seminars and new product presentations, was estimated to generate over US$30 million in business, the organizers said.

This year’s event had another highlight: TIMTOS signed a memorandum of understanding with its counterpart in Turkey, Maktek Eurasia. The MOU was inked by Yeh and David T. L. Chuang of Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry, on behalf of TIMTOS; and Hakan Aydogdu, Chairman of Machine Tools Industrialists and Businessmen Association, on behalf of Maktek Eurasia.

Taiwan and Turkey will not just set up national pavilions in their respective shows, but also enhance their promotion and exchange networks, Yeh said.

The next TIMTOS is scheduled to take place from March 5-10 in 2019. By then, the construction of a new exhibition hall will have been completed, and it will provide the necessary space to expand the scale of the show to another record high, according to the organizers.
