Feb 04, 2025

The World Trade Center Mumbai organized an interactive meeting with Ms. Sujata Koirala, Former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Nepal, Head of the International Relations Department, and Central Committee Member of the Nepali Congress, to discuss strategies for strengthening bilateral relations on February 4, 2025.

During the meeting, Ms. Koirala invited Indian investors to invest in four hydroelectric power projects of 400 MW each, which have received all necessary approvals and are ready for implementation in Nepal. She emphasized the deep cultural, religious, and civilizational ties between India and Nepal, highlighting India’s role as a trusted development partner. The purpose of her visit, she noted, was to deepen collaboration, particularly in sectors such as hydropower, mining, healthcare, education, and tourism, where significant potential exists for growth.

Ms. Koirala assured full support to Indian investors and businesses looking to invest or expand in Nepal. She also highlighted the strong economic cooperation, people-to-people connections, tourism, and workforce exchanges between the two countries, stressing her aim to further strengthen these ties by fostering collaboration between industries and chambers of commerce from both nations.

In his welcome address, Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman of WTC Mumbai, remarked that India and Nepal are not just neighbours but share a sister-state bond. He noted India’s investments in Nepal’s infrastructure and hydropower projects, along with its contribution to Nepal’s exports through electricity purchases.

Dr. Kalantri reaffirmed WTC Mumbai’s commitment to enhancing partnerships in trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchanges. He mentioned that WTC Mumbai has previously hosted trade delegations from Nepal, including visits by current and former Prime Ministers. Highlighting opportunities in sectors such as gold mining, hospitality, and spiritual tourism, Dr. Kalantri emphasized Nepal’s interest in attracting Indian investments, particularly in the services sector. He described Nepal as a cost-effective and business-friendly destination for Indian enterprises.

The event was attended by members of the Council of Management of WTC Mumbai.
