India-Uzbekistan Economic Ties Strengthened

The World Trade Center Mumbai hosted H.E. Mr. Sardar Rustambaev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to India, to discuss emerging areas of economic cooperation and strategies to strengthen bilateral partnerships across various sectors.

The Ambassador highlighted Uzbekistan’s strategic partnership with India, emphasizing opportunities in next-generation sectors such as quantum technologies, semiconductors, electronics, manufacturing, and green energy. He noted the growth in connectivity between the two countries, with weekly flights tripling to 18 and expected to reach 24 by March 2025.

Further Mr. Rustambaev stated Uzbekistan to be an emerging as an attractive investment destination in the CIS region, offering Indian companies incentives such as land, tax benefits, robust infrastructure, and access to a 300-million-strong consumer market. He invited Indian investments in Uzbekistan’s 24 Industrial Economic Zones, particularly in pharmaceuticals, IT, and auto-component manufacturing, and encouraged collaborations in the gems and jewelry sector, tourism, and education.

In his welcome address, Dr. Vijay Kalantri, Chairman, WTC Mumbai, stressed the potential to double the current bilateral trade of USD 470 million in the next two years. He urged Indian companies to leverage Uzbekistan’s business-friendly policies and invited Uzbek firms to participate in India’s Make in India and PLI schemes.

The event also featured Mr. Khurshidbek Samiev, Trade-Economic Counsellor, Embassy of Uzbekistan in India, along with representatives from Indian trade and industry.
